If you have RF central locking (you can press the fob without pointing it through the window - infra red) and your locking refuses to operate anymore do not be fooled into thinking that it's the end of it and going to be expensive.
Renault dealers will try to convince you that it's at least £600 to put right. It isn't and I got it done free.
How? I lived with it (or rather without it). I've no idea what happened, how, or why but I left the car on the drive for six months without a battery connected. When I came back to it months later and hooked up the battery, lo and behold, the RF locking had come back to life. I'd been driving the car with it dead for 3 months and had been locking the car before getting out, opening the drivers door and then locking that with the key. After this 6 month abandonment without a battery, it just came back to life. I had tried resyncing the car, disconnecting the battery overnight and many other things but the long period without a battery seemed to do something to it.
So if your RF central locking packs up, don't fear that it will never work again. It may very well do so.
