Just a quick point. The 2.5 Diesel isn't a Volvo engine. It's an old style (not direct injection) engine which was used in the master/traffic van and a fiat/lancia something. 4 speed Auto only (regrettably). So it's noisy by modern standards (sound a bit like a diesel auto London cab at times), reasonable economy for the day (40 on a long run) and apart from the timing belt, pretty indestructible. The gearbox or electrics are the bit that breaks which usually results in the car being scrapped. However it's generally very well built (like all safs) and a very comfortable relaxing mileage muncher. I've driven to Munich and to Berlin, cruising between 70 and 80 (as well as a few London to Glasgow runs) and always get out as fresh as a daisy physically.
