Does anybody know how easy it would be to fit electric seats to a car without them. Is the wiring already set up for electric in cars with manual seats or would that have to be sorted and is it difficult to do? Thanks for any help.

Electric and heated front seats was an option on a phase 2 even a 2.5 so was a heated front screen and multichanger CD player.
As for retro fitting electric seats i would see what Saffles says about this as he knows more about the Phase 2.
My guess would be that Renault didn,t fit one loom to all cars and that the connectors wouldn,t be there, but i maybe wrong!
Fitting a set from a V6 Phase 1 would be the ultimate retro fit,you could have electric, heated front seats and if you managed to find them, the rare ergomatic front seats with blowup cushions, and to top it of a set of electric rear seats aswell!!
Fitting a complete set of these seats into a phase 2 would be fantastic.
Trouble is finding them, the ergomatic seats was an option in a phase 1 so was leather,so the chances of finding a complete set with both options are near impossible.
I,ve got a complete set in my shed, but they are cloth, even rarer was the ergomatic option on cloth.

You need to find the wiring loom and chair computers from another safrane. More to the point you need to find the tech details on which bits you need as they're scattered around all over the place.

We know one chap who converted a 2L safrane to this spec but getting any information out of him is very hard (he pretty much works every hour god sends and rarely replies to emails even when you beg) so I can't see him being much help.

Your best bet would be to find a 2.5 in a scrap yard (or one being broken on ebay) and hand over a hundred quid or so and just rip out everything you want / can see and have a good old day at it. Take every bit of loom you can find along with every plastic computer box you can get to (there are some under the seats as well as inside the dash). Obviously grab the seats first because then you'll have a lot more space to work with.

Ebay france is a good place to look for seats but you probably won't see all the other bits listed. IF you're not bothered about the memory and mirrors then you could just use two passenger seats (english and french) and work them directly from a 12V supply - bit of a cheat I know but better and easier than nothing!

Thanks for the info. Had found a set of seats whilst I was looking for the headrests which are local to me and pretty cheap. Not desperate to have electric seats though, it doesn't really bother me, I just thought it might be an easy swop (should know better that Renault wouldn't make something easy to do!!)

At £80 thats a snatch!

I saw those a while back and I'm sure they were well over £100 so they've come down due to lack of demand. You might be well off buying them, storing them and then grabbing the other bits as and when you can. It's definitely doable as the chap me and SaffV6 know has done it but neither of us can ever get hold of him to ask him about stuff like that but it is definitely doable - I saw his 2L Saff before and after he'd done the work and you'd never know the difference he did such a good job. The only thing he wasn't able to wire in was a heated windscreen but he'd got everything else including the loom for the memory mirrors!

EDIT:
Forgot to mention, when looking for seats the later seats dropped the pocket at the front of the seat behind the legs (something few cars have). It seemed to be a <97 thing where you had a pocket at the front of the seat under your knees but in the 98 onwards it seemed to vanish. It's been present in both 97 safranes we've had and not present in our 98 safrane which has the modern folding head rests. 99 models were the worst IMO - no leccy seats at all

Is it electric seats or heated seats you really want?

Once the seats set theres no need to move it I reckon.

You used to be able to get aftermarket heating pads for the seats, a bit iof a job to fit as you strip the chair right down to fit the pads. But maybe an idea if you just want heated seats.

But I can see the appeal of toys. And the extra weight won;t make any difference either.
