Hi all I tried to change the fuel filter on my 2.5 today, it doesn't look like its ever been changed. The screws are rusted and nackered, so I will have to drill them out, but how do you get the fuel lines off??? I could see anything that you have to press to release and I tried brute force but they wouldn't come off!!! Adam |

There was a thread about this a while back on the volvo forums (I've yet to do this myself so can't verify it). They say an 8mm open ended spanner between the pipe and the filter as a lever works wonders to disconnect the pipe on both sides. Just remember to clamp them first! FYI I recommended a fuel filter change to someone else a while back who was having bad misfires with their safrane and they changed it saying all sorts of foul coloured fuel came out of it. Put in the replacement and the car was sweet afterwards with no more issues. |

On each side of the filter the connecting pipes have a sort of button setup that you push on either side and the pipe pings of,IF its the same as mine,a Phase 2 might be different? They can be very tight, some Safranes just have straight push on connectors with jubilee clips, but put a bowl under it,it will loose fuel but won,t keep running,it will stop, but take note of all the crap in the filter, bet its very dirty! |

Thanks for the help I will have to use brute force on a spanner. My old MK1 had buttons that you can press to release but the MK2 is different. Whilst I was under there I noticed the underside is quite rusty at the back, which is a worry. Cheers again Adam |

The rust is an issue,it seems that Renault didn,t rustproof Phase 2s aswell as the Phase 1,rear arches and the backend of the Phase 2 seems to be a common rust problem, how bad is it,just surface or worse?. Give us a writeup about your car Adam, would be interesting. |

I have this issue with two of them I've no idea what I'm going to do about it either. I'm now in a difficult situation with one of them, its stuck on a neighbours drive with a dead brake caliper that we can't get out (the brake line refuses to unscrew from it) and it's half way through its 10 day mot retest so I'm going to have to let it go |
