Morning Except to TD all Safranes are expensive to run, I have worked out that I would be better off getting a new car on finance than keep putting petrol in the Saf. I was just wondering if anybody else has given some thought to reducing running costs, I have been thinking either a diesel convertion from a Volvo or a LPG kit. |

I've been mulling over the idea of an LPG conversion myself but the cost is something like £1k although this would still make it cheaper than a new car. I certainly couldn't even consider being parted from my saff for another newer car. The saff despite being a PITA for maintenance, is a wonderful car and I love it to bits. As for running costs, SAFRANEV6RXE (i think thats right) can tell you about costs. His costs him more per year for road tax / storage etc than he spends on petrol! |

I,ve just done a quick tally up and my car costs over £1500 a year to keep,MOT/Tax,insurance and storage fees,NO Fuel! Between 2011-2012 MOTs i drove 7 miles thats a cost of about £192 per mile...... of course if i used it more that figure would drop,but i don,t as theres to many idiots on the road and i can,t trust the British weather,so it stays tucked away,but fully roadworthy,the garage fees are expensive. |

I run my 2.5 on LPG. Best thing I ever did. Cost about £1600 to convert (by the best guys in the business - Hardy's of Pwllheli) but it has more than paid for itself. Fueling up at 62.9 per litre at the moment. You do lose a few MPG but I honestly don't feel any difference between LPG and petrol in terms of performance. Whether it would be worth paying out now is another matter but I definately don't regret it. |

£192 per mile! I had a Range Rover p38 and when I sold it I worked that with all running costs and depreciation that cost me a pound a mile......which upset me. I was thinking LPG as it would me a great shame to loose the 2.5 engine, I have been looking for a secondhand unit and for a 5 cylinder that pretty much leaves Volvo and Audi, Volvos with LPG come up spares or repair for between £300 and £500, weigh the car in for scape say £150 that means the kit is costing between £150 and £350. In theory you are halfing your fuel bill and to fill mine up now costs give or take £100 so if I can do it for the cheaper end of this (I know I will struggle) then it could have paid for itself after just 3 full tanks of fuel! |
