Well i thought i would pay the V6 a visit today in the garage, all was well, started on the button and ran pefect, untill i noticed what looked like a line of cotton etc in the n/s lower corner of the screen,NO it wasn,t it was a crack, somehow the screen has cracked whilist sitting in the garage!!!
So after i calmed down and almost blew a fuse i realised this wasn,t such a bad thing, its the original screen, does have small stone chips and slight white, milking in one corner, its never been mint and has often annoyed me as it lets the car down abit.
So i rang the insurance, went through my details, they then passed me onto the windscreen company who went through all the cars details, inc the fact it was a heated screen and made a booking for next Sat at 10.30am at my garage to fit it,so i want to see how this all goes before naming or shaming the windscreen company, don,t mind waiting a week, its not moving anywhere as usual,i agreed with the company to remove the wipers, trims etc to help prep it and i will refit everything i told them, just fit the screen and i will do the rest, they seemed pleased with this, what this space!!!

Word of warning if its like the ph2..

The windscreen seal at the bottom is very awkward. I had one replaced a few years back on another safrane and in cutting through it, he managed to slice a bit of the dashboard off under the bottom of the windscreen. It wasn't much and he kept quiet about it but it was there. I only found it after he'd gone and to think.. I tipped him a tenner at the time too! I didn't bother grumbling - not much point really but you might want to help the guy out by putting something over the dash surface (sheet plastic for instance) to protect it.

Yeah i will be watching and have plenty of sheets, but hopefully it will go O.K,i,am just a bit edgy as its out of my control and i can,t fit screens so i need to let someone else do it.
I,ve had an E-mail with all my details and booking times etc and everything looks fine there.

Fitting them is easier than removing them. Removing them is a pain (especially if you want them intact). I did it once, I wouldn't fancy doing it again. The trouble with fitting them (which I haven't done) is that you need a special bond and a special gun to apply it evenly. You can probably get them on ebay but I've never needed to .. yet.

My main worry apart from keeping things clean, which should be ok,is that the heated connector on the bottom of the screen,if the screen is stood up vertical without any protection at the bottom then the connector will be snapped clean of.

I have one in the shed (maybe different fron yours) and it doesn't have a connector as such - and yes its stood upright (through its wrapped heavily in bubble wrap).

Mine has a 2 soldered on conectors at the bottom which lead into a large block connector and also it has 2 earth straps, one in each lower corner.

Well its already for Saturday,i,ve removed all the items i think need to be out of the way, been doing a bit each day at lunch in the garage, lucky considering how bad the weather has been!!!
Firstly i removed the interior mirror and the A post trims which just clip on.
Then i removed the wiper arms, this was easy as the arms are actually brand new and i only fitted them recently using grease on the splines, but i could see this being tricky if they have never been removed before,we have a claw type of tool at work to use on these which is fantastic and works very well.Out of interest i,ve always felt the wiper arms look untidy with the attachment nuts on show so i fitted little domed caps over the nuts to tidy things up,they look much smarter.
Then i removed the scuttle trim, again this has been of before with me and i remember replacing all the torx screws as most snapped clean of.
Not sure if its the same on a Phase 2 but the Phase 1 has the alarm turn of switch on the N/S of the scuttle trim, you have the disconect this to remove the trim as the unit doesn,t fit through the hole, easy enough until i removed it and the alarm went of!!! i jumped a mile as its actually turned OFF.
So i quickly removed it from the scuttle and reconnected it again, panic over.
Lastly i unplugged the large block connector for the heated screen and unbolted the 2 earth straps in each lower corner,i bought brand new bolts for here from my friendly nut/bolt shop i visit on my travels.

Good luck with it! I don't envy the job.. when I took the screen out of the ph2 I'd already removed the dash (which was the damaged one from when the screen was fitted).
