As 610 says, avoid removing it unless you really have to. I know I've only just removed all the dash a few weeks back but I honestly can't remember where the stalk connects to.
Anyway if you want to remove it, you need to start by removing the long plastic panel above the dials. There are 3 screws holding it in. Then remove the small panel above the steering wheel / below the dials. It pulls off by hand (forwards if I remember correctly). Unscrew the surround over the dials and remove this (you will also need to pull the steering wheel forwards). Now you'll have access to the clock panel screws and the heater unit screws. Something odd here and I can't remember what but one has to come out before the other and I can't remember which. Also the left side is a PITA to get out as I think it is clipped in. Again sorry for being vague, I really can't remember - when its warmer I will get out with a camera and take pics of all these fiddly bits.
