Hi Chris,

When you lowered your front subframe, did you have any trouble with the two bolts that bolt into the wings? (the two higher ones). Reason I ask is because I recently broke up one of our safranes and when taking the subframe down (god thats heavy!) both of these bolts snapped and left half of themselves in the bolt holes within the wings. This happened both sides despite being drenched in WD40!

Any tips? - I want to use this subframe on the other car as its in better condition!

Don't use wd-40 its crap. Plus gas, rost off ice or the best is wurth rost off crafty.

You can get some access to the top of the bolt if its really rusty with a small wire brush drill attachment to get the worst of the dirt/loose rust off.

I was lucky just did the usual pound it with a hammer then undo. The larger rear bolts should be fine though.

Dumb question, where on earth do you find plus gas? I've tried halfords and the local factors but they never have it. Is it actually a gas or is that just the name?

Cheers for the tip! Hopefully when I take the other subframe off (god they're heavy) I won't have the same hassle. This spare subframe is a beauty though.. still nice and black whereas the other one fitted in the other safrane is rusty.. badly rusty.

Plus gas is available at a decent factor.

Its in a blue tin, its just a penetrating spray.

The best is wurth rost off crafty though, but need to go to a wurth store for it.

Ah nice one mate, I'll have a prowl around next time I'm due to do car work. That could be a while yet unfortunately (operation recovery has ruled out work this year).

Did you sell or keep your safrane btw? - I remember you saying you might sell it and then you vanished for ages so we assumed you'd left us!

Still have it.

Insurance is up on the 22nd of this month and I'm going back to the 19.

The safrane is just too expensive to run at 100 quid a week in fuel, the climate control and cruise are worth a premium just not that much of a premium. The 19 will sit at 80 - 90 and get in the 30's, the safrane is low 20's - high teens. Its no different to any other sizable car though at speed.

The insurance is also double the 19 and in fact more than a 2 year old M5 for me as well, if it was m5 fast, hell even 19 fast I'd probably keep it.

Going back too the 19 will half my running costs at least and I just miss the 19, its handling and it shows up a lot of modern stuff in the speed as well.

The Safrane is taxed and tested until 31st October, so may try to sell it but most likely I will cash in the tax and get the car take back lot to come and give me the 200 quid scrap they offered me.

I have put on just over 12k miles in the Safrane, factor in about 3 tanks for 1k miles so that's 300 quid, fuel alone is a good £3600 plus in fuel in the last year.

Factor in the other cars I drive or the motorbikes I pay way to much in fuel!

The lowest distance I have got from a full tank is 196 miles funnily enough I almost managed to get the thing to sit at 132 ish mph on that tank.

The furthest I have managed is about 450 miles to a tank.

The car has never let me down though. Faults with it have been the cruise control has acted up. But that's sorted I got pictures and will do a write up on the cruise control.

Wow! I knew another safrane driver who claimed he could squeeze out 100MPH from his on the motorway (also a 2L) but never knew you'd get more than that out of them lol.

Yeah 450 is about right for normal driving, the 2.5 comes up with about the same thing. Admittedly they are thirsty motors..

Just out of curiosity, how much would you want for it with tax? The 2.5 is off the road at the moment and due to medical issues I can't be working on it for a while - Doctors orders. A 2L could be useful though. Is it auto or manual?

sits happily at anything up to 120, running back and forth to Edinburgh I usually have the cruise on between 80 and 100.

I have sent you a pm about the car as well.
