The weather was really nice yesterday and i decided to take the Safrane into work for a service and going over.... Its done 8 miles since the last service, but i want to keep its full service history upto date. It flew though the MOT recently and i renewed the insurance this week so a service was last on the list. So what did i do Oil,air, fuel filter change and new sparkplugs, all genuine Renault items. An A/C regas,i do this every year,it recovered almost the exact amount it should which is good to know theres no leak. I changed the mechanical gearbox oil,i have never done this and it drained out only slightly murky, nothing to woprry about. I drained a small amount from the hydraulic part of the gearbox,it was clean and red and didn,t smell of burning so i left it alone,it can cause more issues changing it on older cars,if it was black etc i would of done it,but it wasn,t. I bought a tin of Waxoyl and decided to paint and spray this on the underside,i was pleased with the results and got into all the corners that get missed, its a messy job and you have to put up with the smell for a while but its worth it in the long run,i,ve done it before but it was time for a top up. I also thought it was time to change the exhaust, its not its original and has been replaced in the past, with a genuine item and i guess its lasted well, but at the MOT i noticed it was looking pretty weathered on the rear box, about 6 months ago i bought a brand new centre and rear exhaust and the rubber mounts and 2 sleeves you need to join the sections. So i fitted these aswell, all went perfect and i must admit the fit is excellent, maybe because its a genuine item and not pattern?i dug at the old back box and went straight throw it at the area i thought looked a touch thin!!!also drained about 3 pints of water out of it aswell,i wonder if i should drill a small pin hole at the bottom of the new one? Did a few other small jobs and then returned it to the garage.
