Took the K reg V6 into work today to look at a couple of things
A/C not working
The stink that i wanted to get to the bottom of.
The PAS bottle holder rivets where broken,i drilled the rivets out and fitted new nuts/bolts.
The bad smell actually turned out to be the screen washer water,it smelt o.k when still but when the car moved the smell was terrible,so after a bit of an adventure i managed to drain and clean the bottles,it has 2 one for the screen,one for the headlamps with a small joining tube,the smell was dreadful........all fine now after a good cleanout.
Now the A/C it was R12 when new but that was difficult to get and we don,t have the equipment to use it at work.
So i bought a pair of R12/R134A adaptors,removed the original pins in the connectors(like a bike tyre valve)screwed the adaptors on and went for a full pressure test/oil/regas etc and all was fine,it had no problems and gassed up fine,its now ice cold and works spot on.
It was a pain as only eraly Safranes used R12 REVALEX may have the same problem,my L reg is fine it uses R134A straight away.

Also i removed the heater motor to clear it out as it was a bit noisey,it had a few leaves in there and the usual plastic piece from the heater box.Sounds fine now,its well worth doing this as it only takes under 30 mins to do and is easy to get to.

You have to be a bit careful with R12 -> R134 conversion, I had a AC engineer out here in April to empty the breaker and he was telling me all about it. Something to do with the compressor having to work harder with R134 as there are more elements to achieve the same temperature.

There is a new gas being planned for the latest cars too which means that the pressure will have to be even higher as the refrigerant particles (ions?) will be less per m2 apparently.

Either way, you're doing well matey with your car DIY. Drilling out things is not my cup of tea and neither is AC conversion lol.

Yeah i,ve been told about a few things about the R12 including the seals etc but a few say you can be lucky and be o.k,just have to see,i,am not a large user of A/C but if its there its nice to work.
