Hi all,

I have one of two Renault Safrane 2.0l Executive on the road atm and I'm trying to keep it running until it finally give out on me. I've been having idle problems and today I decided to change plugs etc. I took the battery off and now the car does not even turn over anymore. It seems like the immobiliser doesn't let it turn over, is there a quick way to reset the system?? (All lights come on etc, and the battery has charge etc).

The light on the dash is flashing at 1 per second speed...

Help please...

When you reconnect the battery, you must lock and unlock the car with the key remote - this initialises the system somehow.

I've never had any immobiliser problems with the safrane however on an older renault we had years ago the flashing would indicate the immobiliser was active. On that car it would crank the engine but not provide ignition - the result being it would turn but not start. I've no idea about the safrane as I've never had the immobiliser give me any hassle.

Did you 'plip' the locking system when you reconnected the battery? - This is VERY important on the safrane. If you did not, disconnect the battery again, reconnect, then lock and unlock as quick as you can. If you don't do this, I think the immobiliser disables the car as it thinks you're not the owner.

Strange, you say it doesn,t even turn over?
When you disconnect the battery and reconnect as Saffles said you need to plip it to lock and then unlock it again, but does it not even turn over?
