turbos are good on fuel, thats why saab made the lpt's... ;)

The shortest regular journey I do is 14 miles each way, 12 of those motorway and on cruise.

of course I have been playing a lot with this first tankful and been setting the cruise at 110 etc

This tank should be better

The lack of A?C is annoying me its roasting up here just now, need to gas it up.

Despite the fact I am f gas certified I don't have access to a machine anywhere I go at the moment so will probably have to farm it out which annoys me.

But the AC even if it takes 10mpg off will be welcome.

I know you're skint but what will the 2.5 sell for realistically? Maybe 500?

Scrap value really. It's got no back seats! (Well it has but half of them are electric for the other car - fitted temporarily until I can switch the leather covers). It also has a rusty petrol flap, no paint on the spoiler, duff cat and a broken arm rest on the front passenger door.

Murphys law.. just a few months ago I completely overhauled the breather system on it too - £200 of new parts

I'd prefer to break it up like I did the other one but I've got 3 sheds full of the remains of that and the other safrane on our only drive space. Worked myself into a bit of a corner there so I've got to come up with a plan

is it a 2.5?

Thats the problem, you break cars keep everything and only a few things sell and you are stuck for years with the rest.

I need to clear my sheds out as well.

Yes it is a 2.5. I've only ever had the 2.5 never a 2L - although I've driven a couple of the 2s.

I broke up the 2nd one originally to rebuild the first one which had been pranged. It basically needed a new front end - headlights, bumpers, slam panel, bumper, grille, etc. By the time I'd stripped 2 of all those parts there was so much to replace that it was pointless even thinking of doing it so it made sense to break it up.

I did advertise it once on ebay as spares but I had silly enquiries for bits that I'd already put aside for myself - like the heater blower. Those are like gold dust so I wasn't going to be getting rid of that! Apart from the common parts that go wrong I didn't really get much interest for anything else. I did sell a rear door to some bloke up in London who drove down to collect it then a month later he flogged the car - I suspect it's in a scrap yard somewhere now.

I might start listing bits on ebay that I have left as I'd like to make space to store the newer parts. I still have 3 doors in one shed, a sunroof in another (with a windscreen thats never had its heating element used - it had only been fitted a few months so I bought the tools and removed that!), door seals (I suspect the resident mouse may of had those though), 7 alloys plus a spare steelie... the list is endless. I still got the engine and box sat on a pallet too - they'll never run again now as I've nicked so many little bits off them but they could be made good if someone wanted them. I'd prefer to take the engine out of #3 though as it's still got everything attached and could be fitted in quick time if needed. Plus I'd like the wiring looms out of it too as I never bothered to keep those from '2 (along with all sorts of stupid things i should have kept).

I really do need to think of a plan... I'd be sorted if I could get a job but there is just nothing out there

I have only driven the 2 litre I have and a 2.2 ph1 diesel. The diesel wasn't even far just a road test after a repair and before I mot'd it.

If you are desperate for cash weigh the doors etc in, you get money quick and some space back.

What alloys are they? The guy I got spares off of (ph1 but all went in the ph2 fine) done a deal with me on the alloys I never paid for them as he was goign to get in touch, never did though. I fancy fitting the laguna silverstones though, make the thing more modern.

I got a heater motor from the scrappy, was new looking too. I cleaned it the other day, its either unbalanced or catching though, its annoying. Its always done it though.

The alloys are all ph2 2.5 chinnons. They're all kerbed though but I thought I'd refurb them at some point. I have 7 of them in storage plus another 8 on two safranes! I also have a small collection of the silver round plates that go over the wheel nuts too.

I've never liked the phase 1 alloys much, sure they were probably nice in the day of the phase 1 but I personally think they look a bit old (though they're probably superior in strength to the ph2 alloys).

The reason I've kept the doors ie because of the colour - they're identical to the safrane on the drive whereas the one on the road despite being barley gold is a different shade. Then there is the window glass and motors too. Truth be told they're a pain to keep - they're huge and taking up far too much space in my shed but you know Murphys law, if it can happen it will and the moment I get rid of them I'll need one (though thats not happened yet with the one I sold thankfully).

Well topped up again.

330 miles and managed to get 54 litres back in.

Works out at just under 28mpg, getting better.

I'd say thats about average for a safrane. Mine usually claims on a full tank that it can manage 480 miles yet this in reality is about 400 as the 80 is usually emergency / red zone fuel (this is based on long distance driving not round town). Around town it drops a lot lower and I usually get about 17MPG.

Well since yesterday I have done just over 200 miles, will do roughly that again tomorrow so will need to fill up tomorrow.

But so far 200 ish miles and its still over halfway.

Mostly motorway cruise set between 70 and 80 depending on traffic.

I know if I just slowed down to say 60 I would see massive gains but I have too many miles to go to go slowly

I am hoping to have bettered 30 mpg though, even at those speeds. Where I was though theres a few very steep hills where it changed down and was floored to maintain the speed for a mile or 2.

just filled it today before the long run back.

241 miles, 51 quid to fill it.

Works out at 29.85 mpg.

If I had topped it off before the 30 mph zone running about I had to do then I am sure it would have been above 30 mpg for sure.
