Looking at the foreign sat nav set up i found on E-bay France got me thinking how difficult it would be to fit Sat nav to a Safrane.
Now that setup is very complicated with the wiring etc and its old,but could a modern sat nav unit be fitted into one?
I know there was a good thread on a French/Dutch forum about fitting one but i can,t find it.

There is a simple solution to this without the headache of modifying your cars wiring loom, just fit a stereo with Sat Nav built in there are some nice units available and relatively cheap. Or a new mirrorlink unit which uses the Sat Nav and apps installed on a smart phone.

From experience, a factory sat nav system is generally harder to fit as the Ariel is external and they normally require a speed pulse signal. I was looking at the unit on ebay.fr that replaced the centre air vents with the same thoughts but I also noticed that being LHD, the French air vents are the wrong way round as it isn't a symmetrical unit.

Stand alone sat navs will rely solely on the GPS signal.

I did fit a double DIN unit into my Phase 2 (see a previous thread) that had sat nav/bluetooth etc but to be honest it didn't quite fit so I removed it!
There are both double and single DIN sat nav stereos available and if you go for a known make, you can even integrate it into the steering wheel controls.

Actually, you saying that reminds me of another reason it probably won't fit.

On the UK versions that air outlet panel has screws hidden on both the left and right hand sides that you can only see once you remove the cowling around the dials. The plastic kind of does a 90degree turn and has screws mounted in there - something you wouldn't be able to overcome with the LHD version unless you ripped it out and made up your own plastic surround somehow.

The left side of the outlets is also screwy.. can't remember exactly how but it was a pita to get out of the one I broke up recently.
